Non-target arthropod testing with the parasitic wasp Aphidius rhopalosiphi (based on Mead-Briggs M.A. et al., 2000 and 2010) is designed to assess the potential effects of chemicals, particularly plant protection products, on beneficial insect species that contribute to natural pest control in agricultural ecosystems.

In this study, adult and larval stages of Aphidius rhopalosiphi are exposed to the test substance under controlled laboratory or semi-field conditions. Exposure may occur through direct contact, contaminated surfaces, or treated prey hosts. The test evaluates both lethal and sublethal endpoints over a defined observation period.

Key endpoints include survival, parasitism rates, reproduction, and development of the wasp population. These data are used to determine concentration–response relationships and to assess potential ecological risks to non-target beneficial arthropods.

This testing provides essential information for the environmental risk assessment of chemicals, ensuring that natural enemies of pest species are protected, thereby supporting integrated pest management strategies and biodiversity conservation in agricultural landscapes.
